Defining a Section
A section element is a portion of a Documaker form document. Studio users can reuse sections you have created in other Studio documents.
You can define a section by selecting one or more paragraphs, then designating these as a section element.
Please note:
- If you have reusable content within a Documaker document that spans multiple pages, create it as a standalone section document rather than as a section element in a form. This makes it easier to edit in Studio and helps retain the page breaks and flow of the Documaker document. It also allows for greater reusability in other forms.
- If you must use a section that spans more than one page, ensure that this section does not contain Word columns. Multi-page sections with columns can cause unexpected results when the document is converted in Studio.
- Any content that is not in a footer and that appears after a multi-page section in a form document will appear on a separate page in Studio after the document is converted.
- When creating a section element, you can assign a trigger and recipients to it.
- If you have a section that spans more than one page, ensure that this section does not contain Word columns. Multi-page sections with columns can cause unexpected results when the document is converted in Studio. Instead of using a section (as described above), use a form.
To define a section
- With a Documaker form document open, select the paragraph or paragraphs you want to define as a section.
To verify that the text is not already in a section, click anywhere within the text. If a section content control appears, this indicates the text is already in a section.
If you select only a portion of a paragraph, the entire paragraph will automatically be selected and included in the section.
You cannot select text that contains only a portion of an element. You can only select entire elements to include in a section.
- From the Define group, click Section. Alternatively, right-click the Documaker document and select Documaker, Define Section.
- In the New Section dialog, complete the properties for this new section.
